It did not take cornerback Orlando Scandrick that much time to get interest on the market after getting waived by the Washington Redskins earlier this Tuesday.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Scandrick has drawn the attention of the Kansas City Chiefs, who will be flying in the veteran for a closer look – and probably to get a deal done as soon as possible.

Scandrick’s release from Washington came as a bit of a surprise considering that the Redskins just signed him to a two-year deal worth $7 million last March. But strong showings from Washington’s pair of undrafted free agents in Danny Johnson and Ranthony Texada, Fabian Moreau, and rookie Greg Stroman in training camp and their practices earlier this summer have forced the Redskins to part ways with Scandrick.

As for the Chiefs, Scandrick can add depth to their secondary that lost a lot of talent over the offseason. Star cornerback Marcus Peters is gone after getting traded to the Los Angeles Rams, while Kenneth Acker, Phillip Gaine, and Terrance Mitchell all left in free agency. Last season, the Chiefs were only 27th against the pass, allowing 243.9 passing yards per game.

That same season, Scandrick was with the Dallas Cowboys, with whom he spent his first nine seasons in the NFL. So far in his career, the 31-year-old Scandrick has racked up eight interceptions, 11.5 sacks, and 406 combined tackles in 125 total games.
