Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has a new 10-year contract extension, and it's reportedly worth a whopping $450 million, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Mahomes' deal becomes the richest contract in sports history, with the Chiefs clearly invested in their star player.

Mahomes led Kansas City to a Super Bowl victory last season, and the expectation is that he'll lead the organization to many more in the future due to his incredible skills on the field.

After earning the NFL's Most Valuable Player award during the 2018 campaign—his first season as the Chiefs' starter—Mahomes returned in 2019 determined to take Kansas City to the next level.

Patrick Mahomes and crew ended the Chiefs' 50-year Super Bowl drought, making an appearance in the title game in half a century since Kansas City's Super Bowl IV appearance and taking home the Vince Lombardi Trophy. For his effort, which included 286 passing yards and being responsible for three touchdowns, Mahomes was named Super Bowl MVP after downing the San Francisco 49ers.

The Chiefs have also guaranteed $140 million in Mahomes' new contract, which will run through the 2031 season. As the most expensive contract in sports history, Kansas City is locking in one of the best and brightest young gunslingers in the NFL—someone destined to be a multiple Pro Bowl and All-Pro selection along with possessing the firepower to keep the Chiefs competitive for the prime of his athletic career up ahead.

In the offseason, the Chiefs kept most of Mahomes' targets on offense along with signing the quarterback's college teammate at Texas Tech in running back DeAndré Washington and drafting another back in LSU's Clyde Edwards-Helaire at the end of the first round.
