Patrick Mahomes, alongside a number of his Kansas City Chiefs teammates, appeared in Sunday's Pro Bowl. The superstar quarterback interviewed with ESPN's Lisa Salters following his performance in the game. He was asked how long it took him to get over the loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in last week's AFC Championship. Mahomes delivered a very straight forward response.

“I'm still not over it. I don't think I'll be over it until we are playing in another Super Bowl, so I will have to use that as motivation moving forward… we have to go through the process again. You start from scratch every single year in this league.”

It certainly was a tough pill for Mahomes to swallow. Kansas City led 21-3 and were in cruise control offensively. One last second blunder ending the first half began a comedy of errors committed by the team. The Bengals would ultimately erase the 18-point deficit and defeat the Chiefs 27-24 in overtime.

Mahomes has always been lauded for his composure and leadership qualities. Knowing his subpar play was one of the key reasons for the Chiefs loss last week makes it even more difficult to get over.

Kansas City will look to rebound in 2022. The only major unrestricted free agent on the team is free safety Tyrann Mathieu. Mathieu was a crucial part of the Chiefs defense in 2021, so the hope will be for Kansas City to figure out a way to retain him.

Outside of that, the team is mostly running it back in 2022 and should have every opportunity to make it right.
