Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes took the league by storm in the 2018 NFL season. The coaching staff is now looking to kick things up a notch with him moving forward.

It is difficult to find areas of improvement when a player performs as well as Mahomes did last year. According to Terez Paylor of Yahoo Sports, offensive coordinator Eric Bienemy says the team is still finding ways to challenge him.

“Are we challenging him? Yes, we are,” Bieniemy said. “We’re challenging him in the classroom; we’re challenging him on the field.”

It is encouraging to see that the Chiefs are not ready to let Mahomes settle on his merits just yet. Everything has gone according to plan in Kansas City thus far after they took a full season to develop him as a rookie. He followed it up by with a historic 2018 campaign that saw him take home the NFL's MVP award while leading his team to the AFC Championship.

Despite all Mahomes' success, it is safe to say that the team overall fell short of their goal to reach the Super Bowl. Expectations are now as high as ever in Kansas City, and they cannot afford any more setbacks moving forward. Although the front office has done a solid job of shoring up a talented roster, the Chiefs success will largely be predicated on the play of their franchise quarterback. The coaching staff has praised Mahomes' vast potential. However, the onus will be on them to ensure that he can continue improving on it.
