The old saying you can't teach an old dog new tricks evidently doesn't apply to Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick threw a no-look pass in practice that left Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes impressed.

On Thursday at Dolphins minicamp, Fitzpatrick completed a downfield pass to Devante Adams while not looking at him. Mahomes seemed to enjoy the pass quoting the tweet with the caption ā€œthis is legendary.ā€

Mahomes also completed a no-look pass that caused a social media stir, but his happened during a game against the Baltimore Ravens.

As impressive as the pass was for Fitzpatrick, the bigger question is will he be the starting quarterback when the Dolphins take the field week one. Early reports are that Fitzpatrick has a lead on Josh Rosen right now, although Dolphins coach Brian Flores made it clear the real battle would heat up once training camp rolled around.

ā€œIt's so early that until we really get into the nitty-gritty of training camp and the preseason, it's just too early to say ā€˜This guy is a starter,' or ā€˜That guy is a starter.' That's my opinion on it,ā€ Flores said via upi.com. ā€œI think both guys are working. First team, second team, I think I don't put too much stock into that.

Flores said a lot of the things right now are just about installing the system so it's hard to tell who is actually ahead.

ā€œEverybody is working. The install is the install so we're working everybody on the same plays, the same defense and the same stuff in the kicking game. It's about execution. It's about fundamentals, technique, and if you do those things and you progress, then we'll see where guys fall.ā€
