Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes excited to face the new-look Browns
The Cleveland Browns are the trendy pick to make some noise in the AFC next season after an offseason in which they have acquired players such as wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., running back Kareem Hunt, and linebacker Olivier Vernon.
While the New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs are still considered the favorites to represent the conference in the Super Bowl heading into 2019, the Browns are now viewed as a legitimate threat, and Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is excited to face them.
“He (Odell) is such a talented player, someone who has a lot of success in the NFL. For the Browns to make all those moves and get all those players, I know it’s an exciting time for Cleveland,” said Mahomes, according to Mark Lelinwalla of Men’s Health. “I’m excited to get to face those guys. Probably in the playoffs at some point.
Mahomes is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he made the Pro Bowl and earned an MVP award after throwing for 5,097 yards, 50 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions while completing 66 percent of his passes and registering a passer rating of 113.8.
As a result, Kansas City won 12 games and captured the AFC West division title, also claiming the No. 1 seed in the AFC. The Chiefs, who had a first-round bye, then went on to defeat the Indianapolis Colts in the Divisional Round of the playoffs before falling to the New England Patriots in an overtime thriller in the AFC Championship Game.
The 23-year-old is entering his third season after being selected by the Chiefs in the first round back in 2017.
