Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid says that he doesn't think quarterback Patrick Mahomes will need to undergo surgery on his knee cap, according to Adam Teicher of ESPN.com.

“Right now he looks good,’’ Reid said. “He was out throwing with Dez (Bryant) the other day so he looked like he was slinging it around pretty good. I think he’s fine.’’

Mahomes dislocated his right knee cap during the Chiefs' Week 7 win over the Denver Broncos this past season and missed a couple of games as a result.

In the 14 contests that Mahomes did play in 2019, he threw for 4,031 yards, 26 touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 65.9 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 105.3 en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.

Most importantly, Mahomes led Kansas City to a Super Bowl championship.

The 24-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Texas Tech, was originally selected by the Chiefs with the 10th overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft.

He spent his rookie campaign learning behind Alex Smith, but that ensuing offseason, Kansas City traded Smith to the Washington Redskins in order to clear the way for Mahomes to start.

Mahomes responded by throwing for 5,097 yards, 50 touchdowns and 12 picks while completing 66 percent of his passes and registering a passer rating of 113.8 in 2018, earning MVP honors in addition to notching a trip to the Pro Bowl and a First-Team All-Pro selection.

So long as Mahomes remains healthy and under center for the Chiefs, Kansas City will be a Super Bowl contender for the foreseeable future.
