Interestingly, the Carolina Panthers have never had the chance to face Kansas City Chiefs superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes — ever. The Panthers get their first chance at trying to prevent the former league MVP from another offensive explosion when they face off against the Chiefs on Sunday — something that Carolina coach Matt Rhule is looking forward to.

Rhule, who served as the head coach for Baylor between 2017 and 2019, once came across Mahomes' scouting video back when both of them were still in the NCAA. Rhule admitted that at that point in time, he was more than impressed with what Mahomes was doing:

“When I first went to Baylor, I’m trying to figure out the Big 12 and so I put on Baylor-Texas Tech from the previous year,” Rhule said. “He literally is running all around the field and making these unbelievable plays. … It was like watching a video game.”

Rhule will get to see Mahomes first-hand on Sunday. For Carolina's sake, we hope that he's been watching a lot of more recent scouting videos of the Chiefs star, as the Mahomes from four or five years ago pales in comparison to his current stature.

In Week 8 against the New York Jets, Mahomes' full arsenal was on full display again, as the 25-year-old completed 31-of-42 passes against a hapless Jets side for a 416-yard gain. The All-Pro QB also added five touchdowns, before taking the rest of the night off early in the fourth period. If this is the Patrick Mahomes that shows up on Sunday against the Panthers, then Rhule is going to have big, big problems.
