Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes had eventful seasons in recent years. Despite being in the early stages of his young career, the 24-year old may have already overachieved and exceeded expectations set by the Chiefs Kingdom.

Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy alluded to the nature of the Texas Tech product as tweeted by team beat writer Sam McDowell:

Coming out of college, Mahomes was projected as a first or second-round pick by the professional football scouts and analysts. His good showing in the 2017 NFL Combine increased his draft stock and attracted many suitors. The Kansas City Chiefs then selected Mahomes with the 10th overall pick in the first round in the 2017 NFL Draft.

On January 30, 2018, the Chiefs announced they had agreed to trade Alex Smith to the Washington Redskins, making Mahomes the starting quarterback for the 2018 season. As a full-time starter, he helped lead the Chiefs to a 12–4 record and their third-straight division title that season. His success led him to be named the NFL Offensive Player of the Year, NFL passing touchdowns leader, 2018 Pro Bowl appearance, and an inclusion in the first-team All-Pro. He then capped off his incredible season with the 2018 NFL MVP honors.

Mahomes was slightly derailed during the 2019 season due to an ankle sprain. Nonetheless, he still led the Chiefs to their second consecutive 12-4 record and a first-round bye, as well as their fourth consecutive division title. Another Pro Bowl appearance went in the books and his team ultimately ended a 50-year drought with a Super Bowl LIV title. Mahomes was also subsequently named as the championship game's MVP.

After hoisting a Lombardi in the 2019 season, he was then rewarded with a 10-year contract extension worth $503 million, which extends his stay with the franchise through the 2031 season.

His competitiveness has played a big role in his success which pushed him to unprecedented heights in recent years. Mahomes aims to continue the trend and further improve for the championship cause of his team for the years to come.
