Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Demarcus Robinson and center Daniel Kilgore were deemed high-risk close contacts after getting haircuts from a barber who wound up testing positive for COVID-19.

As it turns out, the situation could have been even more dire.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports quarterback Patrick Mahomes was one of over 20 Chiefs players and staffers scheduled to get a haircut with the aforementioned barber this past weekend.

Kilgore was in the midst of getting his haircut when the barber's test came back positive. Kansas City pulled the barber accordingly.

Such a large-scale incident otherwise could have had enormous implications on the feasibility of even playing the Super Bowl.

The Chiefs narrowly averted an utter disaster. Fortunately, Kansas City was quick to act. Mahomes and Co. can carry on preparing for the Bucs.

Mahomes has been on a tear during the playoffs. He completed 21-of-30 pass attempts for 255 yards and a touchdown in the Divisional Round against the Cleveland Browns before leaving the game in the third quarter with a neck injury. After nearly a week in concussion protocol, the former league MVP lit up the Buffalo Bills for 325 yards and three scores in the AFC Championship Game.

But Tampa Bay's defense poses an interesting test, especially with Chiefs left tackle Eric Fisher sidelined. Bucs defensive end Shaquil Barrett took advantage of an injury to usual Green Bay Packers starting left tackle David Bakhtiari, sacking Aaron Rodgers three times and generating constant pressure. All five of Tampa Bay's sacks in that game came via the four-man rush.

Still, slowing Mahomes and the rest of the high-powered Chiefs offense is another challenge entirely, even if Kansas City was nearly thwarted by ill-fated haircut appointments.
