It is no secret that Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is set to sign the richest contract in NFL history. Although the looming extension has been deemed a foregone conclusion, it remains to be seen just when it will get done.

Mahomes said during an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio that he is hopeful a deal will get done in due time:

“I’m optimistic just to be able to be a Kansas City Chief for a long time. The best thing about this team and this organization is they handle things the right way,” Mahomes said. “So, for me, obviously I’m optimistic of getting that contract and extending my time in Kansas City. I’m just gonna go about being who I am just like I have since the beginning since I was the backup til now. That’s just to go out there, love this game, treat people the right way and all that stuff handles itself.”

Mahomes. comments indicate that he is not planning on pressing the issue with the front office. After all, he still has two years remaining on his current deal and is in the midst of celebrating a Super Bowl win.

Regardless, there is still good reason for Kansas City to make Mahomes contract a priority. He has provided them with plenty of bang for their buck so early in his career. The last thing they need is to suffer any setbacks in the negotiation process that may upset their franchise quarterback.

It will certainly take the Chiefs' brass some time to figure out how to best go about paying Mahomes' steep price tag. The reigning Super Bowl MVP is clearly optimistic that it will get done without any hiccups.
