Minutes after news broke on Wednesday morning that New England Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore has tested positive for COVID-19, Pro Football Talk (and others) shared an image of the All-Pro defensive back in close contact with Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes on Monday night.

In the photo, Mahomes can clearly be seen putting his arm around Gilmore as the two stars exchange words and mutually embrace one another on the field after Kansas City defeated New England, 26-10, at Arrowhead Stadium. The game was delayed from Sunday after Patriots QB Cam Newton tested positive for the coronavirus at the beginning of the weekend.

Both players kept their helmets on, and Stephen Gilmore is wearing gloves.

On Wednesday, ESPN's Mike Reiss reported that the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year had tested positive, forcing the Patriots to cancel practice. Practice squad defensive tackle Bill Murray has already joined Newton on team's reserve/COVID-19 list — which a player can be placed on simply if they came into close contact with somebody who has tested positive.

Fortunately, all the Chiefs' tests came back negative on Wednesday morning, according to ESPN's Dan Graziano.

The defending Super Bowl champions are currently amidst a stretch that includes three games in 10 days, thanks to their delayed Week 4 kick-off. The undefeated Chiefs will host the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, then face the Buffalo Bills the following Thursday at Bills Stadium.

The Patriots have temporarily shut down operations at Gillette Stadium (beyond essential personnel) and will go fully virtual for the time being. They are scheduled to play the Denver Broncos in Foxborough on Sunday afternoon.
