While Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes amazed fans all year with no-look passes and incredible throws, there might be another quarterback ready to challenge him in the department of incredible throws.

During yesterday’s Alliance of American Football (AAF) game between the San Diego Fleet and Atlanta Legends, Fleet quarterback Phillip Nelson stunned the crowd when he somehow completed a pass while looking in a completely other direction.

After being chased down by a few defenders, Nelson turned himself around and threw the ball backward, which was somehow caught by tight end Gavin Escobar for a short gain.

Of course, the clip went pretty viral, with many comparing the throw to some of the incredible passes that Mahomes completed during his 2018 MVP winning season.

To his credit, Mahomes quickly took to Twitter to address the video, simply saying that he’s going to have to step his game up in order to compete with the likes of Nelson’s throw.

While this is obviously just some playful banter between the two players, Mahomes’ talk of stepping his game up is intriguing.

For a player who really saw his first taste of the NFL and absolutely torched the league, it’ll be interesting to see what his next season looks like. Last year, Mahomes ran wild on the NFL, throwing for 5,381 yards, 50 touchdowns, 12 interceptions to go along with a 113.8 passer rating as he helped lead the Chiefs to an AFC Championship berth.

Perhaps he’ll be attempting some backward passes as well once he hits the field.
