Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been ruled out for the rest of the game against the Denver Broncos with a knee injury.

Mahomes suffered the injury in the second quarter and appeared to have his knee popped back into place.

The reigning MVP waived off a cart and limped off the field in obvious pain before heading into the locker room, and the expectation is that Mahomes will undergo further tests to determine the severity of the injury.

Obviously, the Chiefs were not going to take any risks in putting Mahomes back on the field after what appeared to be more than just a minor in-game injury.

Of course, now the team must wait to see whether he will be sidelined for more than just the rest of the game against the Broncos.

Before exiting with the injury, Mahomes became the fastest quarterback in NFL history to reach 7,500 passing yards. While the Chiefs have lost two straight, he continues to showcase his impressive skills as one of the best in the game.

So, there's no doubt that Kansas City is going to be cautious with how it handles Mahomes' injury moving forward.

The Chiefs don't exactly have an easy upcoming schedule, with games against the Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, Tennessee Titans, and Los Angeles Chargers on tap before the Week 12 bye.
