With 10 minutes left in the second quarter, all of Kansas City collectively held its breath when Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes stayed down after a fourth and one quarterback sneak against the Denver Broncos. Video later showed team doctors popping Mahomes' near back into place.

If there is any good news to come out of Denver it's that Mahomes did not suffer ant kind of broken bones, just a dislocation of his knee.

Mahomes came into Week 7's Thursday nights matchup against the Broncos already banged up with an ankle injury but what he sustained tonight could be much worse. The Chiefs' silver lining is what Mahomes told head coach Andy Reid when heading to the locker room, saying that he was fine.

The Chiefs will get a more conclusive determination when they receive word on Mahomes' MRI. A simple dislocation could see Mahomes back on the field sooner rather than later while any ligament damage could put the MVP on IR's.

Kansas City fans should hold some optimism regarding Mahomes' timetable in addition to him being able to fully heal his injured ankle.

The league should not count out the Chiefs just yet. If Mahomes is able to come back before the season ends and in a weak AFC, a wild card or even division birth could still be on the table.
