Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is returning to practice on Wednesday, according to Chiefs reporter BJ Kissel.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid said that Matt Moore will take the ‘majority' of the team reps with Mahomes getting only a few. It is worth noting that Reid didn't ‘rule out' the possibility of Mahomes playing in Week 8 against the Green Bay Packers.

When Mahomes initially went off the field against the Denver Broncos in Week 7, the fear was that their franchise-quarterback might miss significant time. Since that point, the prognosis has continued to improve and even if he can't go this week, his return to practice is a step in the right direction.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network initially reported that Mahomes' injury would sideline Mahomes for at least three weeks, which would project as being a Week 11 return against the Los Angeles Chargers. One of the main factors that suggest that he may be able to return ahead of schedule is the fact that he didn't suffer any significant damage to the knee.

The upcoming Sunday Night Football matchup between the Chiefs and Packers is a highly anticipated matchup as is. However, if Mahomes was somehow able to return to the lineup, the buzz surrounding the matchup would rapidly intensify. The extent of the possibility of that happening remains unknown.

If Mahomes can't play against the Packers, it will be Matt Moore who will get the start. In relief of Mahomes against the Broncos, Moore completed 52 percent of his passes for 117 yards, one touchdown, and no interceptions.
