Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Don “Wink” Martindale thinks Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is truly indispensable.

The Chiefs think so, too, having signed the former league MVP to a record-breaking contract extension in July. However, Martindale believes Mahomes' value does not have a ceiling:

“They could’ve paid him a billion,” Martindale said, via Jamison Hensley of ESPN. “I’d still think he’s underpaid.”

Martindale elaborated on what makes Mahomes so special at the quarterback position, citing his ability to move around in the pocket and make throws from downfield from just about any angle:

“The mobile-type quarterbacks, you have to defend the first play, the second play and sometimes the third play,” Martindale said, via Hensley. “With the way he throws the football, you have to stay on your coverage no matter what. He can be on one side of the field and throw all the way across the other.”

All of those abilities were on full display as Mahomes led the Chiefs to a comeback victory over the Los Angeles Chargers this past Sunday.

Mahomes was unusually inefficient, completing just 27 of his 47 pass attempts. But he made possibly the throw of the game on a deep ball to Tyreek Hill, and also rushed six times for 54 yards.

Meanwhile, Martindale's defensive unit has looked dominant early.

The Ravens have allowed just 22 points and 610 total yards through their first two games, also leading the league with five takeaways.

Baltimore's defense will provide a challenge for the Chiefs on Sunday, though Martindale knows the Ravens will need to make Mahomes uncomfortable in the pocket.
