The Kansas City Chiefs are set to begin their first season without Jamaal Charles manning the backfield as their starting running back.

However, it will be without the services of running back Spencer Ware as the Chiefs have confirmed that he has suffered a torn PCL that will effectively force him to miss the entire 2017 season.

Although Ware is holding out hope that he can return at some point late in the season, but signs are pointing toward him having to sidelined with the serious knee injury. He has suffered the ailment against the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday in a preseason game when he attempted to fight through contact for more yardage on a reception.

His absence now elevates rookie Kareem Hunt, who was taken in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft, into the starting spot ahead of the 2017 campaign. He had been splitting the carries prior to the injury to his teammate. This could be a prime opportunity for Hunt to immediately carve out a significant role right out of the game to start his NFL career.

Ware was coming off his best season where he led the Chiefs in rushing with a career-best mark of 921 yards while also ranking fifth on the team with 33 receptions.
