The Kansas City Chiefs were able to secure some depth on the edge with the signing of defensive end Taco Charlton. It appears he has rather high hopes for the 2020 NFL season.

Charlton has struggled to fit the billing as a former first round pick up to this point in his career. According to Dani Welniak of KCTV, he is looking forward to finally finding his footing in Kansas City:

“This is a year to prove myself. With the right scheme I can show my talent. I’m able to still do a lot of great things on the field.”

Charlton was initially taken with the 28th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys. Unfortunately, he struggled to carve out an integral role for himself amid a revamped edge rushing group in Dallas. His tumultuous tenure eventually came to an end when he was released two weeks into the 2019 campaign.

Charlton was picked up off waivers by the Miami Dolphins and coincidentally made his debut against his former team in Week 3 last season. Although he managed to record two tackles and a sack, the Cowboys still secured a lopsided victory. Fortunately, he was still able to enjoy a bit of a resurgence with the Dolphins by finishing the season with 21 tackles, five sacks and two forced fumbles.

There are few places better to get back on track than with the reigning Super Bowl champs. Charlton also already has a connection in Kansas City with Michigan teammate and fellow defensive end Frank Clark. He will now be looking to help Clark form quite the edge rushing duo for the Chiefs like they did in their college days.
