John Lovett is a prospect the Kansas City Chiefs are very excited about. His development has generated optimism in the Chiefs' Kingdom. That optimism ran into a moment of concern in the team's preseason opener.

The Kansas City Chiefs dominated the Cincinnati Bengals in their first preseason game of the year on Saturday. With a final score of 38-17, you'd be excused if you believed everything was perfect in Kansas City.

However, there were some issues, and one of those was an injury, specifically, a shoulder injury to tight end John Lovett.

Obviously, injuries are a shame no matter what. With Lovett, it's frustrating because he was coming in as an undrafted rookie who could have made a lot of waves.

Who is John Lovett, you ask?

Lovett could bring a ton of versatility to the Kansas City Chiefs. He'd be able to play a multitude of positions and help them create different packages and looks that could confuse defenses for days.

Of course, to do that he would need to make the team first. To make the team, Lovett needs to impress in training camp and preseason.

So far, he has. Saturday was his first chance to do make a statement in live-game preseason action. Things started out well. He caught both targets thrown his way for a total of 23 yards.

That's where it ended. The injury took him out of action for the rest of the night.

This is definitely a bummer for everyone involved. Lovett was becoming a fan favorite in camp and fans definitely wanted to see him on the field as much as possible. Meanwhile, the coaches likely wanted to evaluate him further. Lovett wanted to be out there for obvious reasons.

The good news is that it doesn't appear to be too serious for the Princeton product. If Lovett can come back to practice and get back on the field for preseason Week 2, he can pick up where he left off.

Hopefully, this is just a small bump in the road of a fun rookie season for John Lovett. The Kansas City Chiefs could get the most out of him, and he can be a valuable piece for them in return. Let's hope this injury doesn't change any of that.
