Through his first six seasons in the league, Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce has established himself as one of the premier players at his position in the league. His teammate Patrick Mahomes took that a step further ahead of their Week 6 matchup against the New England Patriots by voicing that he believes Kelce is better than Rob Gronkowski.

From Zach Cox of NESN.com:

“On my list, I would rank Kelce the best tight end in football,” Mahomes said. “I know Gronk has been a great tight end for a long time, but I mean, I haven’t gotten to play with Gronk. I’ve played with Kelce, and I’ve never seen anyone be able to do the things that he’s done.”

This is a bit of a bold statement as Gronkowski has held down that title for the last several years due to his incredible throughout his career. He has been a huge threat in the passing game when on the field and healthy, as he has racked up four 1,000 receiving yard campaigns along with 77 receiving touchdowns, which currently ranks 30th all-time in NFL history. Gronkowski is off to a solid start this year with 23 catches for 308 receiving yards and touchdown that has him on pace to notch 74 catches for 986 receiving yards.

Meanwhile, Kelce has been at the top of his game over the last three seasons, earning a Pro Bowl in each campaign while notching at least 70 catches and 875 receiving yards in each year while topping 1,000 receiving yards in each of the last two campaigns. He is also off a strong start with 28 receptions for 407 receiving yards and three touchdowns that has him on track to garner 90 catches for 1,302 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns, which would set career highs across the board

There is a fair argument to be had here between these two Pro Bowl caliber talents that should see them both be in line for huge performances in Sunday's matchup that could provide more clarity on who the better tight end is at this point. Nonetheless, it is quite clear Mahomes has all the confidence in the world in Kelce's ability on the field.
