The Kansas City Chiefs will be adding another impact player to the secondary – if the rumors are true, at least. In a since-deleted tweet, former NFL wide receiver Antonio Bryant said that the Arizona Cardinals have traded superstar cornerback Patrick Peterson to Kansas City.

A source subsequently told Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio, however, that not only was there no deal in place between the Cardinals and Chiefs, but the teams hadn't even broached a trade for Peterson.

A source with direct knowledge as to whether such a deal had gone down tells PFT that no deal has gone down between the Cardinals and the Chiefs, and that there has been “zero dialogue” between the two teams. Another source suggested initially that something may be happening, but then made it clear that Peterson is staying put in Arizona.

Patrick Peterson requested a trade from Arizona midway through last season before ultimately walking it back. Given that recent history and the likelihood the Cardinals are years away from competing for a championship, there was always a possibility the team would revisit the idea of trading Peterson this offseason.

On Monday, the 28-year-old posted a series of cryptic messages to Instagram that seemed to suggest dismay with Arizona. He then posted an old photo of himself on the bench with former Cardinals teammate Tyrann Mathieu, who signed a three-year deal with the Chiefs last month.

Bryant, who retired in 2009, is not the most reliable source of league intel, and Pro Football Talk's ensuing report indicates there's certainly nothing imminent between Arizona and Kansas City. Considering Peterson's known willingness to move on from the Cardinals, though, this situation is certainly one that warrants continued monitoring.
