Since the 2017 season opener against the New England Patriots, Kansas City Chiefs safety Eric Berry has been steadily recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon.

Berry's agent, Chad Speck, provided an update on Berry's recovery via social media posting a video of his client running in drills while voicing optimism about his NFL future.

Berry is set to enter the first year of his six-year, $78 million extension that he signed last February that includes $40 million in guaranteed, which made him the highest-paid safety in the NFL. He is slated to make $13 million in the 2018 season in base salary and bonuses.

This isn't first health obstacle that the 29-year-old has had to overcome in his career as he missed a sizeable chunk of the 2014 campaign due to be diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma. He was able to return the next season where he returned to elite form where he earned the NFL Comeback Player of the Year award along with a Pro Bowl selection and a First-Team All-Pro nod. Prior to that, he suffered a torn ACL in the season opener of the 2011 season and was able to come back the following year earning a Pro Bowl selection.

Berry has shown continued progress in his recovery from the injury, but it has typically taken nine months to a year to completely heal. He looks to be on the path to being ready in time to play in the 2018 season if he's able to avoid any possible setbacks along the way. That said, the Chiefs will likely ease Berry back on the field considering the severity of the injury he suffered that could be a career-altering ailment.

In his first eight years of his career, Berry has been a staple in the secondary for the Chiefs while proving to be one of the top safeties in the league. His progress through his rehab will continue to be monitored by Kansas City over the next several months.
