Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is among the many NFL players who have used their celebrity status to boost the Black Lives Matter movement. Despite this, there are still those who do not agree with his activism, telling him to “stick to sports.” For Mahomes, he is simply doing what he feels is right. And he's aware that he's not going to please everyone.

Per 610SportsKC, Mahomes had a message for critics who tell that athletes should just play their sport and not participate in politics.

“We are people too,” Mahomes said. “I feel like those people [who say stick to sports] have kids and they understand that their kid could play sports and their kids could possibly be in the same position that we’re in. They would want their kids to show their heart and show who they truly are and try to affect the world in the most positive way possible. That’s what we believe that we’re doing. And so obviously, we know that not everyone agrees with everything that you’re going to say. Just know that when we say stuff, we mean it and we care and we want to make the world the best place for our future kids and for generations to come behind us.”

The NFL had been relatively silent amid the ongoing protests nationwide which were sparked by the death of George Floyd at the hands of the police. However, the league took a pivot after Mahomes and several NFL players released a video conveying a powerful message condemning racism and police brutality.
