A crushing broken hand diagnosis after Game 4 of the Western Conference semifinals against the Portland Trail Blazers took Chris Paul‘s season to new lows.

After playing in 74 regular season games and having the chance for a bid at the Western Conference finals, the 6-foot point guard was forced to watch from the sidelines as an early 2-0 series lead for the L.A. Clippers ended in devastating fashion after losing four in a row to Portland.

In the latest Jordan Brand ad for Paul's signature sneaker — CP3 X — the floor general recalled his experience with the injury and how his career's expectations have changed from priding himself in being a two-way player to a championship-or-nothing mindset.

“When I broke my hand, like, I almost lost my mind,” Paul said. “As bad as I want to win a championship and as hard as I work to win a championship, I'm always just trying to improve to be the best player I can be.”

“One of the biggest things I've always prided myself on is defense. Now, at this point in my career, that two-way player stuff don't mean nothing if you don't win a championship.”

Take a look.

Paul ends the ad by saying “I won't settle for anything less. And that's why I succeed,” a nod to Michael Jordan‘s “Failure” ad, which said: “I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”
