Los Angeles Clippers superstar point guard Chris Paul suffered a sprained left thumb during the team's practice on Saturday. Although he showed up the next day to the practice facility, he was wearing street clothes and had his hand wrapped.

The good news for Clippers fans is that he won't be forced to miss extended time. In fact, he is only listed as “day to day” and is expected to play one of the two remaining preseason games on the team's schedule.

Head coach Doc Rivers confirmed this and also explained why the team is taking a precautionary approach to Paul's condition.

Per Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Daily News:

“He’ll play in definitely one of the two (remaining preseason games), and that tells you it’s not that serious.”

“Right now, it’s just not worth it,”

Another advantage the team has is that it only has six preseason games and the last one scheduled is a week from the start of the regular season which gives CP3 more time to allow his thumb to heal.

The Clippers' other All-Star, Blake Griffin made it clear that even if the regular season has not started yet, they take these exhibition games seriously and use them to run plays and defensive sets they practiced.

“You want to be sharp these last two games, but we still have a big gap of time between our first game.”

“(It’s) putting together a whole game.I’m glad we’re playing these last two on the road. Finding our defensive talk on the road is a little different. At home, home crowd, in front of your home bench, it’s a little easier.”

With Griffin and Rivers' comments, it appears that Chris Paul is just taking a few days off to rest his minor injury but will suit up on Monday or Tuesday. And once they kick off their season on October 26, the team will be at full strength ready to compete and make noise in the Western Conference.
