Though the season is currently suspended due to ongoing concerns surrounding the coronavirus pandemic, the Knicks are still exploring their options. In fact, New York has reportedly taken a liking to Detroit Pistons forward Christian Wood.

Regardless of what happens with the salary cap amid the coronavirus crisis, we know the Knicks are going to have money to spend in free agency.

While it's way too early to know who they'll target, it's worth noting that some in the Knicks' front office are enamored with Detroit's Christian Wood.

Wood, now 24 years of age, is enjoying the best statistical season of his career. He was recently moved to the Pistons' starting lineup in the wake of Andre Drummond's trade to the Cavs. In this role, Wood has racked up averages of 23 points and 10 rebounds while shooting 40 percent from beyond the arc.

In 62 appearances this season (12 starts), Wood has recorded averages of 13.1 points on 56.7 percent shooting (38.6 percent from downtown), 6.3 rebounds and 1.0 assist in 21.4 minutes per outing.

Wood, who reportedly tested positive for coronavirus, is set to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason. However, the Pistons hold his early-bird rights, as Begley notes in his report. Detroit could go over their cap to sign him, but there will certainly be other teams interested in his services, as New York has already shown.
