The Los Angeles Clippers have long suffered ignominy at the face of Los Angeles Lakers fans. However, they have one of the most iconic broadcast announcers to ever grace sports television in the form of Ralph Lawler.

The veteran broadcaster has been the official voice for Clipper Nation ever since they moved to the Golden State. This time, he is getting his due credit for his contribution to the Clippers and basketball TV in general.

The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame handed Lawler the Curt Gowdy Media Award, having him receive the award alongside the 2019 Hall Of Fame class. NBA TV was quick to put together a video that celebrated the retired broadcaster's career in the league.

Lawler has been the primary broadcaster for the Clippers for almost every year, save the 1981-82 and 1984-85 seasons. He was there when the Clips barely had what you would call a team. He was also exclaiming on the sidelines during the Lob City era, unleashing his “Bingos!” and :Oh Me, Oh Mys!” whenever Blake Griffin, Chris Paul, and DeAndre Jordan made exhilarating plays.

The 81-year-old drew the curtain on his career just before Kawhi Leonard and Paul George joined the team in July. He may not be there to call games, but he is more than happy to see the team in a positive place after years of struggle.

He told the Orange County Register's Mirjam Swanson about his hopes for 2019-20.

“We are looking forward to the future with great excitement. But the timing stinks. I wish I’d have done all this a year ago or put off retiring for a year; it’s going to be hard to miss what’s going to be a golden year for this franchise.”

Lawler will be spending his retirement years with wife Jo, their three children, and seven grandchildren.
