Yahoo Sports insider Chris Haynes — who was the first to break the news that Kawhi Leonard was signing with the Los Angeles Clippers — says Leonard was never going to re-sign with the Toronto Raptors.

Haynes says going back home to Los Angeles was always the goal for Leonard, who signed a three-year deal with the Clippers.

“I think that (Lakers) was the second option,” Haynes told Brandon ‘Scoop B' Robinson on Scoop B Radio. “I don't think he was going back to Toronto…He doesn't like the cold weather. I reported that a year ago. He wanted to be back home.”

After Chris Haynes tweeted Kawhi Leonard agreed to a deal with the Clippers, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN tweeted LAC was trading for Paul George. Both Leonard and George are from California and will now try and lead the Clippers to their first-ever championship.

Although Haynes says the Los Angeles Lakers were Leonard's second option, no one really expected Kawhi to sign with the Lakers since the move didn’t really fit his M.O. After guiding the Raptors to the 2019 championship and winning his second Finals MVP, playing third fiddle behind LeBron James and Anthony Davis just wasn’t in the cards for Leonard.
