The Los Angeles Clippers will undergo some major changes this season. Stalwarts Chris Paul and J.J. Redick are both gone and their absence will significantly change the way the team plays, particularly on offense.

One such way head coach Doc Rivers intends to alter the way they play this season will be for Blake Griffin to see more time at center, Tomer Azarly of ClutchPoints reports.

“It's nice to put different groups out on the floor. We've done very little stuff with Blake at the five, but that's something we're definitely gonna do during the season. “I think we've played like 4 minutes with Blake at the five, and we know we're going to do a lot of that during the season. We're going to do a bit of that today [in practice].”

Rivers had been resistant to playing Griffin big minutes at center in the past, and has opted instead to pair him alongside DeAndre Jordan as often as possible. Griffin spent the most time playing with Jordan among all his teammates last season.

But with Paul gone, Rivers will need to be a bit more creative with his lineups to get enough offense and playmaking on the court. Playing Griffin more at center and offseason acquisition Danilo Gallinari as a stretch power forward should help achieve that.

Griffin should be able to thrive facilitating the offense at the post or the elbow while playing center. He will enjoy more space to work with when he’s surrounded by an additional shooter instead of the paint-clogging Jordan.

If Rivers does follow through on his plan to play Griffin more at center, it could be a promising move that helps unleash this new Clippers team’s offensive potential.
