“Uncut Gems,” the new film featuring Adam Sandler and Boston Celtics great Kevin Garnett, is going to be fascinating for NBA fans. There are plenty of NBA references throughout the movie, and Doc Rivers is involved since the film is fixated on Garnett's 2012 playoff run with the Boston Celtics.

Rivers had to get in the booth and record some lines for the film. Interestingly enough, Rivers recorded his voiceover during the Los Angeles Clippers' recruitment of Kawhi Leonard. The Clippers coach even dropped a hint to the Safdie Brothers, the writers and directors of the movie, that another star was involved in the recruitment.

However, they didn't know it was Paul George. ESPN's Zach Lowe wrote more about this revelation in detail:

Rivers recorded his voiceover during the Clippers' Kawhi Leonard recruitment, the Safdies told the roundtable. He hinted to the Safdies that a second player might be involved, but he did not tell them who it was. “We didn't realize it was Paul George,” Josh Safdie said. “That's crazy!”

Rivers sure was a busy man this past summer, and this is a fun anecdote. As for the movie itself, it will be cool to see Garnett in such a leading role. Rivers spoke about Garnett's acting ability:

One person was not surprised by Garnett's acting skill: Doc Rivers, the current Clippers coach and former Celtics coach who recorded a voiceover for the film. Rivers built an out-of-timeout play around Garnett's acting ability, Garnett and Josh Safdie told the roundtable. He instructed Garnett to come out of the huddle acting “really cocky” so the other team would expect the ball to go to him. (The play was designed for Paul Pierce.)

“Uncut Gems” came out on Friday. Besides Sandler and Garnett, the film stars Idina Menzel and Lakeith Stanfield.
