Klay Thompson made headlines when he said that the Los Angeles Clippers didn't do anything special on defense. When he was asked about Thompson's comments, Doc Rivers downplayed the comments to Tomer Azerly of ClutchPoints:

“It wasn't special, it was good. So I agree with Klay. I hear all that. Even if you don't hear it now 20 people call you, ‘Did you hear what Klay said?' Yeah he said our defense wasn't special.”

Rivers wasn't taking Thompson's comments personally and joked with reporters about it. He also had an interesting take on the use of bulletin board material in the social media era. When asked if players see these comments and use it as motivation, Rivers said he thinks the players use social media as bulletin board material.

“[Players] do. The best part about Instagram and Twitter and whatever else stuff that's out there now is coaches no longer have to clip and go get the article and put it on the bulletin — first of all there's no bulletin boards anymore. But we don't have to use it because they already know it so that kind of helps, I guess.”

We've all heard stories of using social media banter to help motivate them. Social media has changed the way the NBA operates, and it seems like players are much more aware of what guys around the league are saying. Either way, the Clippers got the win and now they have even more motivation for the next matchup they have with the Warriors.
