The Los Angeles Clippers may have been eliminated from the playoffs, but they are well-equipped to build a championship contending team next season. They have enough cap space to sign two top-tier free agents to max deals, and they are reportedly the frontrunners to land either Kawhi Leonard or Kevin Durant.
Clippers head coach Doc Rivers knows the franchise's situation, but although going for the big names would be their top priority, he also said that they will make sure that they will spend their money wisely.

The Clippers have been competitive this season even without a bona fide superstar. They snagged the eighth seed and gave the Golden State Warriors a tough bout in the first round. Imagine how far this team would go if they have someone like Durant or Leonard on the roster.
However, even if they miss out on the marquee free agents, the Clippers can still build a competitive team by going after guys that fit well with their system. Doc Rivers and Co. have already proven that the Clips can be a really good team even without an All-Star, so they wouldn't really mind building a squad that relies heavily on teamwork and chemistry rather than just one person alone.
The Clippers are in a great situation right now, and only time will tell if they will be able to take advantage of the opportunity laid on the table. With some of their targets still playing in the postseason, they will have to play the waiting game to see how the results will impact the direction that they will be taking this summer.
