Los Angeles Clippers superstar small forward Kawhi Leonard wasn’t able to work on his game as usual in the offseason due to his patella tendon injury, according to Mirjam Swanson of the Orange County Register.

Leonard dealt with left knee tendinitis during the 2019 Finals against the Golden State Warriors and only played in nine games during the 2017-18 season with the San Antonio Spurs due to his lingering quad injury.

Leonard, who left Staples Center without addressing the media Tuesday, has mentioned he wasn’t able to work on his game as usual this offseason and has subsequently remained unavailable to play back-to-back games with what the NBA reported was an ongoing injury to the patella tendon.

Leonard is shooting a career-low 43.9 percent from the field this season and coming off a 3-of-15 shooting night against the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday. For his career, Leonard shoots 49.2 percent overall. He’s one of the most efficient players in NBA history. For whatever reason, the two-time Finals MVP hasn’t been able to hit his jump shot with consistency this season.

The Clippers, though, are still winning games despite Leonard’s murky shooting. LA is 16-6 on the season, good for second place in the Western Conference standings. Leonard is averaging 25.0 points, 7.9 rebounds and 5.3 assists in 16 games, so he’s still putting up elite numbers.
