The Los Angeles Clippers are signing center DeMarcus Cousins to a 10-day contract that will become official once the free agent clears the league's health and safety protocols, according to a report from Shams Charania of The Athletic.

It was reported earlier in the week by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski that Cousins had entered quarantine last Tuesday in anticipation of joining a club for the stretch run, thus making him eligible to pass the COVID-19 protocols as soon as Monday, as long as he does not return any positive tests. Should his quarantine period end, Boogie would have a chance to join the Clippers Tuesday night against the Portland Trail Blazers, though it is uncertain if the team will employ such a quick turnaround.

The move to sign Cousins comes in the aftermath of a back injury that has sidelined Serge Ibaka for the past 10 matches. With the team's starting center still unable to participate in on-court activities, the Clippers' have decided to add the veteran big man as a stopgap.

While the former All-NBA center may no longer possess the same athleticism that once made him a max-level talent, Cousins is still capable of contributing off the bench thanks to his size and shooting ability. In 25 games with the Houston Rockets this season, Cousins collected 7.6 rebounds in just 20 minutes of action and shot nearly 34 percent from behind the arc. With the Clippers looking to create driving lanes to the rim for Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, Cousins' ability to spread the floor while not giving up significant size on the opposite side of the court makes the deal a low-risk high-reward proposition for Los Angeles.

Though he may no longer be the star he once was, DeMarcus Cousins will be counted upon in LA.
