Last week, the LA Clippers agreed to a one-year deal with forward Luc Mbah a Moute. The deal would bring the Cameroonian Prince back to Los Angeles where he spent the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons. On Thursday, the two sides made the signing official, with Mbah a Moute inking his $4.3 million deal for the 2018-19 season.

“Luc is the ultimate professional,” said President of Basketball Operations Lawrence Frank about Mbah a Moute. “He is a very smart player and an outstanding defender who leads by example and provides a strong cultural presence in the locker room. Luc is a class act that we welcome back to the Clippers.”

Last season as a member of the Houston Rockets, Mbah a Moute averaged 7.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 0.9 assists, and 1.2 steals per game on 48 percent shooting from the field and 36.4 percent from beyond the arc. He missed time early in the season and then again late with a dislocated shoulder, but appears to be recovered from the injury.

It was an interesting decision for Mbah a Moute to leave a Rockets team that was one win away from the NBA Finals to instead come back to a franchise that is in the middle of a retooling period. During his two seasons with the Clippers, Mbah a Moute averaged 4.6 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 0.8 steals on 48.7 percent shooting, but was mostly used as the teams' best defender

This is another brutal loss for the Rockets, who have now lost their two best defenders at the forward spot in Mbah a Moute and Trevor Ariza, who agreed to a one-year deal with the Phoenix Suns early in free agency.
