In the midst of a very busy NBA trade deadline, the L.A. Clippers have locked up shooting guard Lou Williams to a three-year contract extension, according to Shams Charania of The Vertical. The deal will include a team-option for the third and final year, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The former Sixth Man of the Year had garnered plenty of interest and was one of the top trade targets during this deadline.

Williams had emphasized his desire to remain a Clipper in interviews, starting with his post-game conversation with ESPN's Scott Van Pelt after dropping a career-high 50 points in a win against the Golden State Warriors.

The 6-foot-1 guard is averaging a career-high 23.3 points and 5.3 assists per game as a shooting guard for the Clippers, ranking 16th in the league in scoring, thanks to a 38 percent clip from the 3-point line and an infallible 90 percent from the foul line.

At 31 years old, Williams still has the legs of a player in his 20s, as he's come off the bench for the vast majority of his career, known as one of the most lethal scoring options.

If the Clippers don't move DeAndre Jordan or any players before the deadline, there's a chance they'll explore how far this team can go with the additions of Tobias Harris and Avery Bradley — currently sitting only half a game behind the New Orleans Pelicans for the last seed in the Western Conference.

The Clippers come off an offseason where they've lost Chris Paul in a trade to the Houston Rockets, and surviving a myriad of injuries throughout their starting lineup. They traded Blake Griffin to the Detroit Pistons earlier this month and have won four of their last five games, including the last two.
