Marcus Morris‘ name is once again being brought up in relation to a controversial play from the first-round series between the Los Angeles Clippers and Dallas Mavericks. Morris finished with 12 points, six rebounds, and four assists in 28 minutes of action, but is being scrutinized on social media for allegedly stepping on Luka Doncic‘s ankle on purpose.

Here's the play at hand:

Social media ran with the clip, saying Morris intentionally stepped on Doncic's already injured ankle as some sort of competitive advantage. Marcus Morris caught wind of the claims, and fired back on Twitter.

“I play this game with a level of respect for myself and other players,” Morris said. “To think I would try to injure somebody is crazy to me. 10 years going against the best. I stand on morals and hard work. I compete and leave it out there every game.

“Basketball has never been that serious to try to hurt somebody. I'm not apologizing for shit because I know what I put into this game day in and day out. It was a mistake deal wit it. Competing is why I play.”

Morris also delivered an additional response to FOX Sports' Nick Wright, who has constantly been playing the Clippers down throughout the bubble and postseason

“Targeting?” Marcus Morris responded in a tweet directed at Wright. “Smh the things you do for clout. Been a pro and will always be one. Don’t ever talk on my name like that champ. This game is about competition and that’s why I play.”

When asked for his view of the play, Luka Doncic didn't make any accusations, but also didn't say it was clean.

“I've seen it, yeah, of course,” Doncic said. “I have my own thoughts. I hope it wasn't intentional. Tell me, what do you think? I just hope it wasn't intentional, but every person is going to have their own thoughts.”

When asked if Morris tried to offer any apology after the incident, Doncic said he didn't want to talk to him.

“I don't want to talk to him,” Luka Doncic added. “He's just saying a lot of bad stuff to me all game. Just, I don't want to talk to him. I just got to move on. Like I said, everyone is going to have their own opinion and I just hope it wasn't intentional. If that was intentional, that's really bad.”

Back in Game 1 of the series, Kristaps Porzingis was ejected after picking up a second technical foul for getting into an altercation with Morris. It was the first technical for Morris, so he remained in the game, but Porzingis was done for the game early in the 3rd quarter.

After the game, Porzingis claimed Morris and the Clippers' “other guys” did a good job baiting him into the altercation and second tech despite Morris saying he didn't believe Porzingis should've been ejected.

“That’s what they do,” Porzingis said. “Not their main guys, but some of the other guys, that’s their job. That’s part of their game, and we can’t fall into that. We’ve got to be above that and that’s it. These are the mistakes you almost have to go through to gain that experience and not to commit those mistakes later on in your career.”

“I didn’t think it was much of nothing, honestly,” Morris said after Game 1. “I think Luka thought that I was being, I guess, extra physical or something, but if you look at the film I actually wasn’t doing anything. I didn’t think it was enough to get technical fouls. I wish that Porzingis played because it’s the playoffs, man, nobody should get thrown out in playoffs. I know that really hurt their team. Not my fault, but I didn’t think it was that serious.”

Game 6 between the Clippers and Mavericks is set for Thursday night at 6 p.m. PT. If it's anything like the previous five games, expect a lot of chippiness with the Mavs' back against the walls and the Clippers trying to move on to the second round.
