The L.A. Clippers’ losing skid has now hit nine games following their loss to the New York Knicks on Monday night. And according to the New York Times’ Marc Stein, the seat of championship-winning Clippers coach Doc Rivers is inevitably set to get warmer as a result.

Stein isn’t the only one who thinks Rivers is very much on the hot seat. The Ringer’s Bill Simmons also believes the Clippers are closing in on a situation where either Rivers gets fired or DeAndre Jordan gets traded.

While Rivers is one of a select group of active championship-winning coaches in the league as Stein points out, his job security has to be under some scrutiny given the team’s horrendous start. He no longer has the added protection of being the team’s president of basketball operations, a title which was taken away from him, making him more vulnerable to get fired.

The good news for Rivers and the Clippers is that their next five games are all against teams with losing records. That includes road games against three of the worst teams in the NBA in the Atlanta Hawks, the Sacramento Kings, and the Dallas Mavericks.

If the Clippers are still unable to steady the ship after that stretch, then Rivers’ seat should be scorching by then, if he even manages to last that long.
