LOS ANGELES — Paul George came into this NBA season ready make up for a 2019-20 campaign he called “disappointing.” After the Los Angeles Clippers' latest victory over Devin Booker and the Phoenix Suns, George admitted he's growing tired of hearing his name thrown around the NBA and is determined to change the narrative around himself this season.

George erupted for a season-high 39 points Sunday night on 15-of-24 shooting from the field and 7-of-10 from beyond the arc in the Clippers' 112-107 over the Suns, who entered the game with a sterling 5-1 record. During the Suns' furious fourth-quarter comeback, Paul George got into a verbal exchange with Chris Paul after an offensive foul call. That was followed up by a heated exchange with Devin Booker 25 seconds later after George took exception to unnecessary contact from Cameron Payne after a foul was already called.

After the game, George was asked about the exchange and why the talk around his name has changed over the last year.

“That’s a question you got to ask them,” Paul George told ClutchPoints. “I don’t talk, I play my game. For whatever reason, it’s dudes talking. Like, never heard people talking, and it’s never been directed towards me, but for some reason it’s a lot of mouth. And it’s fine. I got to play up to that. I’ll go through the fire. It’s fine. As long as we come out on top and we win and I am helping my team win. That’s all that matters. Save the rest, they can do what they want. I’m locked in and it’s more so about me being at peace and at ease.”

In an interview with FOX Sports West after the game, George also said he feels a lot of players are enjoying his down year last season.

“I had a tough year last year,” Paul George added. “People think it's sweet that I was down. I didn't hear none of this in my 10 years in the league, but last year… People living on that last year and I gotta answer to that. I'm ready to compete. I'm back.”

If you thought Paul George didn't have enough bulletin board material heading into the season, this will surely be added to it.

“Absolutely,” George said when asked if he uses bulletin board material. “And it’s the reason I came into this year focused. I heard all the noise and I use all that noise for motivation.”

George will look to capitalize on his big performance when the Clippers come home to take on the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday night. That will be followed by a pair of games in San Francisco against the Warriors.

Through seven games, Paul George is putting up a stout 25.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 1.7 steals per game on 50.8 percent shooting from the field and 49.2 percent from beyond the arc en route to a 5-2 record.
