Paul George thinks Clippers can be a ‘special’ defensive team

Paul George, Clippers

Los Angeles Clippers newcomer Paul George is excited to see how good the team will be next season. He believes that they can be really good, especially on the defensive end.

“We’ve really got a chance to do something special on the defensive end… For the first time, people are gonna be excited to watch the defensive side as opposed to the offensive side,” George said during the Clippers’ media day, per Tomer Azarly of ClutchPoints.

The Clippers have three elite defenders on the roster: George, Kawhi Leonard and Patrick Beverley.

PG13 was a candidate for the Defensive Player of the Year award last season, while Leonard has earned the reputation as someone who can shut down the opposing team’s best player. On the other hand, Patrick Beverley is a scrappy and tenacious guard who isn’t afraid to get physical with anyone.

They also have promising bigs in Montrezl Harrell and Ivica Zubac, who definitely have the potential to be great rim protectors.

Individually, they have the talent, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them at the top of the league’s best defensive teams next season. In addition, Doc Rivers is a defensive-minded coach and has already led a team to a championship once by emphasizing the importance of defense.

The league has a lot of contenders with two elite players, but none of them is as more versatile on both ends of the floor as Kawhi and PG. And with a solid supporting cast, expect the Clippers to be a problem for opposing teams.
