Former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue has reportedly agreed to join the Los Angeles Clippers as Doc Rivers' top assistant.

Talks between Lue and the Clippers gained traction last week, with reports citing that the LA team was “closing in” on hiring the Cavs' champion coach.

Lue was the Los Angeles Lakers' top candidate for their head coaching position this summer, but negotiations between the two parties eventually fell apart due to terms of the contract. Lue reportedly wanted a longer deal, which the Purple and Gold weren't willing to give. It didn't help that the team was said to be insisting on choosing Lue's top assistant.

The 42-year-old Lue has worked with Rivers in two different occasions, both as an assistant. In fact, Lue was with Doc and the Clippers during the 2013-14 season before moving to Cleveland. His first stint with Rivers was with the Boston Celtics from 2011 to 2013.

Interestingly, Lue coached Lakers star LeBron James with the Cavs. Now, he will be fighting against his former player for dominance in the same city.

Lue's hiring is another massive move for the Clippers, who recently made a splash in free agency by signing Kawhi Leonard and trading for Paul George. It also puts them in prime position to contend for the title in the upcoming 2019-20 campaign.
