The Los Angeles Clippers are coming off their first season in seven years that they have missed the playoffs. It also marked a campaign where much of the roster was overhauled throughout the year.

This has also created some uncertainty around head coach Doc Rivers' future in Los Angeles as he is set to enter the final year of his deal that will pay him $10 million. According to veteran NBA reporter Peter Vecsey of Patreon, the Clippers could be hedging toward finding a new head coach this offseason with a couple of different options in mind.

Rivers is guaranteed to go, it says here. A revamped roster in mid-February dictates a demand for a new voice with new ideas with a new image. Owner Steve Ballmer, who inherited Rivers when he purchased the Clippers and gave him lots of leeway, has had plenty of time to figure out Doc is a stone phony. He took away one title (president) from him prior to this season. The time has come to relieve him of his coaching duties, pay him the $10M owed for next season, and offer Villanova’s Jay Wright a blank check. GM Lawrence Franks’ second choice, I’m told, is Jeff Van Gundy.

Rivers has spent the last five seasons with the Clippers and his time with the team looks to have to hit a rut. He has more than established himself as one of the top coaches in the league by what he had done this past season, but the team may feel a new sense of direction is needed.

The front office has brought forward many changes to the roster with the only constant being former All-Star center DeAndre Jordan. If the team is able to garner any serious interest from Villanova's Jay Wright or Jeff Van Gundy, the Clippers could quickly move off Rivers.

Los Angeles is likely open to the idea of keeping Rivers aboard, but the opportunity to change direction with another proven head coach with their revamped roster could be too hard for them to pass up. If the team doesn't offer him an extension, things could become quite interesting with the organization. This is certainly a situation to keep an eye on over the offseason.
