Los Angeles Clippers big man Montrezl Harrell becomes an unrestricted free agent this summer.

According to Jovan Buha of The Athletic, Harrell could earn less money in free agency given how the 2020 trade deadline played out:

His limitations as a rim protector and rebounder are the primary factors holding him back from being a max or near-max player. The Athletic reported earlier in the season that Montrezl Harrell was projected to earn as much as $20 million to $25 million annually this offseason, but that figure is believed to be decreasing given how the trade deadline played out and the lack of available cap space.

It is worth noting that should the Clippers decide to keep Harrell, they could very well end up in the luxury tax.

Harrell is averaging 18.8 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists on the season for the Clippers off the bench. He’s shooting 58.0 percent from the field and 64.0 percent from the free-throw line.

NBA execs believe the Atlanta Hawks could be a summer destination for Harrell if things don’t work out with the Clippers, who also have to address Marcus Morris' free agency.

Montrezl Harrell has career NBA averages of 12.6 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists. He was the 32nd overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. The Clippers love him, but it remains to be seen if they are ready to open their pockets to keep Trez in LA.
