Raven Software, co-developer of Call of Duty Warzone, announced on Tuesday that they've banned over 13,000 accounts from the game.

13,000 PLAYERS GET ACCOUNTS BANNED IN COD WARZONE

Raven Software returns today with another tweet announcing a ban wave in Call of Duty Warzone (COD Warzone). This comes after the developers updated their anti-cheat software last week.

What exactly did the new update added for the anti-cheat software? We don't know, as Raven Software usually keeps that information under wraps. However, a blog post on the Call of Duty website last February did give us a glimpse of how the anti-cheat software will be improved over time. “The security and enforcement teams have additional measures coming – both preventative and enforcement,” reads the blog post. “…throughout this year to root out both cheaters and cheat providers.”

The blog post also acknowledged the need to keep updating the anti-cheat software. Cheaters and cheat providers continue to modify their methods. Hence, the developers have to always be on top of exploits and gaps in the game's code. This does pose an additional challenge for games-as-a-service like COD Warzone, as new content will always give cheaters new opportunities to cheat. Making sure that the game's code remains spotless becomes much more difficult if it gets constant content updates.

Raven Software's anti-cheat program can spot most cheaters and ban them automatically. However, not everyone gets caught. This makes it important for players to manually report cheaters, giving the devs a heads up on suspicious behavior. Just over a week ago, COD Warzone‘s very own Alex Zendra caused the bans of two cheaters. The game's voice actress found two players cheating in a tournament who were carelessly live-streaming themselves while cheating. Zendra reported the cheaters to the developers, and the two got promptly banned by authorities. This shows how important it is for players to report others, as it speeds up the process for the developers by a lot.
