Alabama star wideout Jaylen Waddle will miss the remainder of the 2020 season after suffering a gruesome injury while returning the opening kickoff against Tennessee on Saturday.

Alabama head coach Nick Saban told CBS at halftime that Waddle is out for the season (Griffin Smith on Twitter).

Jaylen Waddle was projected by many NFL draft experts to be a first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Hopefully, he's able to make a full recovery and still be selected in the 2021 draft.

Waddle entered the Tennessee game with 25 catches on the season for 557 yards and four touchdowns. He has career numbers of 103 receptions for 1,965 yards and 17 touchdowns at Alabama. He's listed at 5-foot-10 and 182 pounds.

It's been a tumultuous season for the SEC powerhouse program, with Nick Saban testing positive for COVID-19 earlier in the year. The much-distinguished college coach was later cleared to join Alabama on the sidelines against Georgia last week.

Injuries are always the worst part of sports, especially in football, widely considered the most dangerous sport out there. Alabama players will surely dedicate the rest of the season to Waddle, who was popular amongst his teammates.

After the Tennessee game, Alabama will face Mississippi State. Most pundits believe Saban's squad has a good shot of winning the NCAA championship this season. They entered the Tennessee game at 4-0 and second in the AP poll. Only Clemson is ranked higher than Alabama.

The entire college football world will be keeping Waddle in their prayers moving forward.
