The college football scene was in for a shock on Thursday. Davonteā€™ Neal, a former high school football star and current assistant coach of the Idaho State football team, was charged with first-degree murder.

Idaho State has already placed Neal on administrative leave. A statement from ISUā€™s athletic director was released regarding the arrest of the college football assistant coach: (via Idaho State Journal)

ā€œThe news of Davonteā€™ Nealā€™s arrest and charges in Arizona was a great shock. Going forward, we will cooperate in every way possible, safeguard our program and culture, support each other and our students, and allow the legal process to work. The news is devastating and we hope for resolution for all involved.ā€

Prior to his stint in the college football coaching world, Neal was a high school phenom at Arizona. He played under current ISU head coach Charlie Ragle in Scottsdale, Arizona. Afterwards, Neal would continue to play organized football for the University of Arizona. He would eventually land a coaching gig under his former HS coach in Idaho State

Aside from first-degree murder charges, Neal has been charged with other related crimes. According to the police report, the ex-college football coach is also facing charges for drive-by shooting and discharging a firearm at a structure. The incident reportedly happened in November of 2017.
