The Texas Longhorns parted ways with Tom Herman on Saturday as their college football head coach and they didn't waste any time replacing him.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Longhorns are hiring Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian as their next head coach.

The official Twitter account for the Longhorns has already welcomed Sarkisian to the program following the reports of his hiring.

Before being fired on Saturday, Herman spent four years at Texas after he had success with the Houston Cougars for two seasons. In his four years with the Longhorns, Herman failed to have much success in the Big 12, posting a combined 32-18 record.

Herman had only one 10-win season in Texas, which has led him to be fired as head coach on Saturday. As for Sarkisian, the Alabama Crimson Tide's offense is still rolling as they advanced to the National Championship Game following Friday night's convincing win over Notre Dame.

Sarkisian has been the offensive coordinator for Nick Saban's team since 2019 after he was with the Atlanta Falcons from 2017-18. This isn't the first time that Sarkisian has been given a chance to be a head coach in college football, having previously spent time as the head coach at USC from 2014-15 and Washington prior to that.

However, Sarkisian would only last 18 games at USC before being fired in his second season with the program after beginning the 2015 season with a 3-2 record. It goes without saying that Sarkisian will have lofty expectations—similar to other coaches who have attempted to turnaround Texas like Herman.

Despite being hired on Saturday, it is unknown if Sarkisian will be arriving at Texas before or after Alabama's title bout with Ohio State.
