Why Ole Miss Could Cover the Spread
The Ole Miss Rebels want to extend a three-game winning streak when they visit Mississippi State on Thanksgiving. The Rebels are 9-2 and currently ranked 12th in the nation. They have scored at least 27 points in each of their last three wins and have held opponents to under 20 points. Quarterback Matt Corral is one of the front runners to win the Heisman trophy this season. He has thrown for 3,100 passing yards and 19 touchdowns with a 67.5% completion percentage. Corral has rushed for 552 yards and ten touchdowns as well. The offense ranks 21st in points per game (34.6) and 6th in yards per game (506.1). The offensive line has allowed Corral to get sacked just four times this season.
Defensively, the Rebels allow 26.2 points on 435.2 yards per game. Linebacker Chance Campbell leads the defense with 87 tackles. The Rebels are 4-1 against the spread versus a team with a winning record. The Bulldogs secondary allows 230 passing yards per game, so Corral and the Rebels should have their way through the air. Over their last six games, Ole Miss is 4-2 against the spread and 5-1 straight up.
Why Mississippi State Could Cover the Spread
The Mississippi State Bulldogs are coming off two very high-scoring affairs where they scored 43 and 55 points respectively in two wins. The Bulldogs beat #17 Auburn 43-34 two weeks ago and then smashed Tennessee State 55-10 last week. The Bulldogs are 7-4 and currently, 25th ranked in the nation. Quarterback Will Rogers leads the nation in completion percentage (76%) and is 2nd in the country in total passing yards with 4,113. He has thrown for 34 touchdowns this season. The Bulldogs' offense averages 29.5 points on 435.2 yards per game. They have the 5th best fourth-down completion percentage in all of college football. They favor the passing game immensely, leading the nation in pass play percentage (72.81%) and passes per game (54.6).
Mississippi State will need to air the ball out when playing against Corral and Ole Miss. This game could very well turn into a shootout between both stud quarterbacks. On the defensive side of the ball, the Bulldogs allow 26.2 points on 338.2 yards per game to opponents. They have the 7th rated rush defense, which could be a difference-maker in this game. In their last five meetings against the Rebels, Mississippi State is 4-1 against the spread. They are 5-0 against the spread in their last five games overall.

This will be a big in-state rivalry game that will be taking place on Thanksgiving night. The over is 4-1 in the Bulldogs' last five games, and both teams are putting up a ton of points lately. However, over the previous eight meetings between them, the under is 7-1. Both teams are evenly matched offensively and both quarterbacks can rack up yards in bunches. I personally believe Corral is the best quarterback in college football, yet I am going to take a shot with the home team here. The Bulldogs will feed off the home crowd and come out on top. I would bet the Mississippi State money line just to be safe.
