Future Hall of Fame kicker Adam Vinatieri is finalizing a one year deal to return to the Indianapolis Colts according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Vinatieri will be playing his 24th season in the league at the age of 46. Vinatieri had said after the season was over that he wanted to return to play another year but at the time it was unclear if the team wanted him back, or they were going to go in another direction.

Signing him to another year means they have made the decision that they feel he is good enough to be the kicker again.

Vinatieri went to South Dakota State and was signed as an undrafted free agent by the New England Patriots in 1996. He spent ten season with the Patriots before signing with the Colts in 2006 and helping them win the Super Bowl. Vinatieri has been Mr. consistent throughout his career, and even though he has gotten older, he really hasn't lost much of a step.

Vinatieri made 23 of the 27 field goal attempts this year with the long being 54 yards, showing that he still has the leg to be in the league. He also made 44-of-47 extra point attempts this year.

For the Colts, this is the first big offseason signing they have made and Vinatieri did say that he likes the direction that the team is heading. Via The IndyStar.

“On teams that have won championships and got to the big game, there’s a certain vibe and feel in that locker room. Everyone talks about how there’s a brotherhood in that locker room, there’s not a lot of dissent, there’s not guys that go off on their own. It’s a team atmosphere. I really started to feel that this year.”
